Roselle

Appearance 外觀

Roselle produces attractive foliage and flowers. The leaves are lobed and reddish-green and the flowers are typically pink with a dark center.

Growing Condition 生長條件

Roselle requires well-drained soil and adequate watering. It does not do well in the shade and needs plenty of sunlight to thrive.

Uses 用途

The part of the plant that is edible are the calyces of the roselle flower which can be used to make a variety of jams, sauces, and teas.

Health Benefits 營養價值

Roselle may help digestion and prevents constipation; its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties may boost immune system and help treat discomfort caused by fever.

Roselle Tea 洛神花荼

Ingredients (for 1 cup of tea):
- Roselle (fresh or dried) x 2
- Hot water
- Sugar or honey (optional)

1. Remove the pod of seeds inside the roselle calyces (花萼) and wash the calyces thoroughly
2. Brew the calyces with hot water for at least 1 minute
3. Optional to add sugar, or honey when the water gets cooler
